Summer Blockbusters- What's In vs. What's Out

2013. Big number, right? I'm sure there's tons of people who didn't even think we would ever get here. Well congratulations. We're here. And movies have traveled right along with us. Cinematography, an amazing feat attempted by many stumbling directors but completely achieved only by few. So I'm going to be reviewing all of these movies, letting you know what's worth the watch and what really wasn't an important factor. I love movies, I love watching movies and just the feeling of being in a theater. And if you're like me, you like reading a little about these movies. So here you go- just a little more insight on the blockbusters of this summer.

Wolverine - PG13 - 6/10

Hugh Jackman, back from his stunt with the musical Les Miserables and on track with this Marvel comic book based movie, definitely delivers a good, dramatic performance in this action thriller. Although it's been slapped with the rating of PG13, I'm not even sure it deserves that. There's multiple scenes of stabbing and blood, and quite a few times he gauges other people with his "claws". If these are the kind of actions were displaying as heroic, what should we expect out of our kids? It's definitely a violent, predictable superhero movie as expected out of Marvel. Predictable ending, and it stays within the guidelines of each superhero movie. Boys will love and girls will most likely be bored or shocked with explosion after explosion. All in all, it's just another gory superhero movie with no real stand-out points.

The Conjuring - R - 9/10

The Conjuring, the summer box office horror flick hit, was astonishingly powerful and strangely emotional for a horror movie. Normally, in horror movies I feel like I'm basically watching them to see someone die, get a few jump scares, and get my heart pumping. However, James Wan, director of The Conjuring, takes the idea of horror beyond. Conjuring isn't rated R for profanity or nudity, it is simply rated R for being simply terrifying. Old school scares combined with modern special effects make the movie an enjoyable reminder of what the horror genre used to be before it was disgraced with the simple existence of films such as Human Centipede and Hostel. James Wan is known for his creation of Saw, gory slasher movie, and Insidious, a haunted house horror ride with a soon-to-come sequel. Insidious was good, but Wan truly proved himself as a worthwhile director in the Conjuring. Aside from the climatic demonic possession and exorcism scene, tiny short of blood (a woman coughs up blood from under a sheet), and a few shaky glimpses of the apparitions, the movie isn't technically gory or disgusting. It's just plain terrifying. The Annabelle doll must be ranked among the scariest dolls in cinema history (especially since she exists to this day) and the feeling of uncomfortable interest you feel in this movie is amazing. Wan develops the characters well, making you feel emotionally attached to them. You almost feel like when they're being tortured, you are too. This rare form of sympathy is almost extinct among horror movies. I was shocked by how good this movie it and would highly recommend it to horror fans. And if you're wondering after what I'm saying if this movie is flimsy and not scary. It's not. It's not scary. IT'S HORRIFYING. You will be a little eh-eh this isn't scary in the first half, but once it gets to the rising action/climax YOU WILL BE ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT. Empty your bladder BEFORE this movie! But it truly is a rare jewel in the coal mine of the washed out genre.

Will review more later! Let me know what movies you'd like to hear about. -Moviewer
